RPMC Statement on Rep. Brett Hulsey Reprehensible Stunt

In light of the words and actions being displayed by Rep. Brett Hulsey this weekend at the Republican State Convention in Milwaukee, we feel it is important to speak up. This stunt is nothing short of reprehensible. Racism is an abhorrent disease and there is no place for it in this Country. We, as a party, will do everything in our power to dispel the notion that racism somehow exists within the Republican policies or ideals. We will not allow our opposition to define us with lies. We need to speak up loudly and clearly on what we DO believe:

We Believe…The proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done, but cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is a government closest to the people.

We Believe…Good government is based upon the individual, and that each person’s ability, dignity, freedom and responsibility must be honored and recognized.

We Believe…The free enterprise and the encouragement of the individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none.

We Believe…Sound money management should be our goal.

We Believe…In equal right, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin.

We Believe…We must retain those principles of the past worth retaining, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view.

We Believe…That Americans value, and should preserve, their feeling of national strength and pride. At the same time, share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom, and the extension of human rights throughout the world.

We Believe…The Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

Debate Response: Governor Romney is Ready for Commander-in-Chief Role

Wausau, WI – Monday night marked the end of the presidential debate season. Governor Mitt Romney stood
toe to toe with the President and made an effective case for change. We believe he won this foreign policy
debate for these reasons.

1. He carried himself with presidential bearing, elevating him to equal status with the commander-in-chief.
2. His broad guiding principles for foreign policy were compelling.
3. His indictment of the President's Mideast policy was based on obvious regional "tumult" and was
effective.
4. He showed how trending US economic weakness lessens our global influence and national security.
5. He cast an inspiring vision of an enduring freedom in America as the beacon to freedom seekers
around the world.

Now the push to Election Day accelerates as voters take the last two weeks to persuade undecided friends
and to prepare for the November 6th results. Governor Romney has done so much more than motivate the
base of the Republican Party. We are thrilled with the future he has represented in these debates! However, he has also made his case for Americans of all party backgrounds to embrace the hopeful prospects for these
United States under the leadership of President Mitt Romney.

Press Release: Enthusiastic Support for the Romney-Ryan Ticket

Wausau, WI – Just before midnight, we got the news that Governor Romney’s VP choice would be announced
on Saturday morning. Just after midnight, the choice was announced by the press: Congressman Paul Ryan of
Wisconsin. We enthusiastically support this choice for many reasons.

1. Congressman Ryan has served with distinction, winning seven straight two-year terms in Wisconsin’s
1st congressional district.
2. At age 42, Ryan is highly accomplished and has a long, bright future of service to the country.
3. Nobody understands the nation’s financial situation better than Paul Ryan.
4. Congressman Ryan has courageously put bold federal initiatives on the table to right the ship fiscally.
As chairman of the Budget Committee, he has laid out detailed plans to reduce our debt. This has
come at the cost of becoming a target for Democrats who unthinkably have not attempted to pass a
budget in three years. He is the grown up in the room.
5. Who can forget how Congressman Ryan ran circles around President Obama in the roundtable
discussion over healthcare reform?
6. This VP choice shows the confidence of Governor Romney to elevate the brightest, most articulate
public servants.
7. This VP choice shows that the GOP is going hard after the State of Wisconsin, with the expectation of
turning it red in the presidential race. This is a vote of confidence for every county party that has worked
for the Republican resurgence.

As the recipient of the 2012 Top County Award at the Wisconsin GOP Convention, the Republican Party of
Marathon County accepts the challenge of bringing Wisconsin home for the Romney-Ryan ticket! Our
machinery is well-oiled and we are ready to roll up our sleeves for the home stretch to the November 6 General
Election! We have seen ugly, malicious, untrue personal attacks on Governor Romney and Congressman
Ryan. The RPMC will stand steadfast with these men and their families as we stick our heel in the ground and
turn this country around.

Press Release: SCOTUS ObamaCare Ruling Response

Wausau, WI – Today’s Supreme Court ruling upholding ObamaCare is a moment of clarity, not a defeat for those who love America as it was founded. Chief Justice John Roberts’ opinion defines the individual mandate clearly as a tax on the people and businesses of the country. This shows that President Obama and those that supported this massive overtake of health care lied to the American people when they said there will be no tax increases or additional costs in the bill. That legal clarification allows voters to decisively state in November whether the massive tax increase will be accepted.


The decision has never been clearer. To reelect President Obama and Democrats is to choose huge government expansion through these legally defined taxes. To elect Mitt Romney and Republicans is to choose the repeal of ObamaCare and the continuance of limited government.

The Supreme Court has stated that the American people have the freedom to choose European-style socialism if they desire. This ruling lights the same fire of civic engagement under the national Republican party that has been burning in Wisconsin for the last two years. America’s future will be chosen by the American people. We must elect Mitt Romney if free enterprise and a bright economic future are to be preserved.

WDH Fall 2012 Elections Overview

June 2, 2012 Fall election papers filed for Wisconsin state legislature By Jeff Starck Wausau Daily Herald Just days before the contentious, closely watched gubernatorial and Senate recall elections, candidates for the fall elections turned in nomination papers before Friday's deadline. A Democratic primary will be needed to trim the field for the 85th Assembly District to replace current Rep. Donna Seidel. Seidel, D-Wausau, filed for non-candidacy because she is seeking the open 29th Senate District seat in Tuesday's recall election. Democrats Jeff Johnson, the chairman of the Marathon County Democratic Party, and Mandy Wright, a sixth-grade English teacher at Horace Mann Middle School in Wausau, both are vying for the seat. A primary will be Aug. 14. Mandy Wright, 34, of Wausau, said her priorities include developing small businesses, creating access to quality and affordable education and health care and protecting the environment. She sees the primary as a chance to express her viewpoints and listen to voters. "(A primary) gives voters more chances to find out what kind of representative they really want," Wright said. Johnson, 53, a retired probation and parole officer, said he would change laws to end the practice of charging unreasonable interest rates on loans and would find ways to drive business and agriculture development. Johnson said voters have told him state government needs to find a way to work better. "They don't necessarily want to hear about government. They just want it to be functional," Johnson said. The winner of the primary will take on Republican Pat Snyder, a radio host for WSAU radio, 550 AM and 99.9 FM, of Schofield, and Libertarian Jim Maas of Rothschild. Maas ran for the seat in 2010 but was defeated by Seidel. Seidel's opponent in the Senate race, Jerry Petrowski, R-Marathon, is giving up his 86th Assembly District seat. Democrat Dennis Halkoski, a retired Everest Metro Police officer from Weston, will oppose Republican John Spiros, a Marshfield City Council member. Spiros ran unsuccessfully in 2010 for the seat held by Amy Sue Vruwink, D-Milladore, in the 70th Assembly District. Other local races » Republican Lincoln County District Attorney Don Dunphy will have a challenger in Democrat Sidney Brubacher. Dunphy of Gleason was first elected district attorney in 2004. Brubacher of Wausau is a prosecutor in the Marathon County district attorney’s office. » Three candidates have filed nomination papers for the 12th Senate District after Jim Holperin, D-Conover, filed for noncandidacy. Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Hazelhurst, filed for noncandidacy in the 35th Assembly District to run for Senate. Paul Ehlers of Rhinelander, an Independent, and Susan Sommer of Phelps, a Democrat, also are in the race. Lisa Theo, a Democrat from Tomahawk, took out nomination papers, but the status of her paperwork was unknown as of press time. » Three candidates have filed nomination papers for the 35th Assembly District. Mary Czaja of Irma, a Republican, Kevin Koth of Tomahawk, a Democrat, and Patrick Tjugum of Tomahawk,  an Independent, all seek to replace Tiffany. » Marathon County District Attorney Ken Heimerman is running unopposed. » U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Weston, is running for a second term. He is being challenged by Pat Kreitlow, a former Democratic state senator from Chippewa Falls, and Independent candidate Dale Lehner of Prairie Lake. Republican Mike Krsiean of Holton announced his intention to run for the seat, but the status of his paperwork was unknown as of press time.
