Debate Response: Governor Romney is Ready for Commander-in-Chief Role

Wausau, WI – Monday night marked the end of the presidential debate season. Governor Mitt Romney stood
toe to toe with the President and made an effective case for change. We believe he won this foreign policy
debate for these reasons.

1. He carried himself with presidential bearing, elevating him to equal status with the commander-in-chief.
2. His broad guiding principles for foreign policy were compelling.
3. His indictment of the President's Mideast policy was based on obvious regional "tumult" and was
effective.
4. He showed how trending US economic weakness lessens our global influence and national security.
5. He cast an inspiring vision of an enduring freedom in America as the beacon to freedom seekers
around the world.

Now the push to Election Day accelerates as voters take the last two weeks to persuade undecided friends
and to prepare for the November 6th results. Governor Romney has done so much more than motivate the
base of the Republican Party. We are thrilled with the future he has represented in these debates! However, he has also made his case for Americans of all party backgrounds to embrace the hopeful prospects for these
United States under the leadership of President Mitt Romney.

Press Release: Enthusiastic Support for the Romney-Ryan Ticket

Wausau, WI – Just before midnight, we got the news that Governor Romney’s VP choice would be announced
on Saturday morning. Just after midnight, the choice was announced by the press: Congressman Paul Ryan of
Wisconsin. We enthusiastically support this choice for many reasons.

1. Congressman Ryan has served with distinction, winning seven straight two-year terms in Wisconsin’s
1st congressional district.
2. At age 42, Ryan is highly accomplished and has a long, bright future of service to the country.
3. Nobody understands the nation’s financial situation better than Paul Ryan.
4. Congressman Ryan has courageously put bold federal initiatives on the table to right the ship fiscally.
As chairman of the Budget Committee, he has laid out detailed plans to reduce our debt. This has
come at the cost of becoming a target for Democrats who unthinkably have not attempted to pass a
budget in three years. He is the grown up in the room.
5. Who can forget how Congressman Ryan ran circles around President Obama in the roundtable
discussion over healthcare reform?
6. This VP choice shows the confidence of Governor Romney to elevate the brightest, most articulate
public servants.
7. This VP choice shows that the GOP is going hard after the State of Wisconsin, with the expectation of
turning it red in the presidential race. This is a vote of confidence for every county party that has worked
for the Republican resurgence.

As the recipient of the 2012 Top County Award at the Wisconsin GOP Convention, the Republican Party of
Marathon County accepts the challenge of bringing Wisconsin home for the Romney-Ryan ticket! Our
machinery is well-oiled and we are ready to roll up our sleeves for the home stretch to the November 6 General
Election! We have seen ugly, malicious, untrue personal attacks on Governor Romney and Congressman
Ryan. The RPMC will stand steadfast with these men and their families as we stick our heel in the ground and
turn this country around.

Press Release: SCOTUS ObamaCare Ruling Response

Wausau, WI – Today’s Supreme Court ruling upholding ObamaCare is a moment of clarity, not a defeat for those who love America as it was founded. Chief Justice John Roberts’ opinion defines the individual mandate clearly as a tax on the people and businesses of the country. This shows that President Obama and those that supported this massive overtake of health care lied to the American people when they said there will be no tax increases or additional costs in the bill. That legal clarification allows voters to decisively state in November whether the massive tax increase will be accepted.


The decision has never been clearer. To reelect President Obama and Democrats is to choose huge government expansion through these legally defined taxes. To elect Mitt Romney and Republicans is to choose the repeal of ObamaCare and the continuance of limited government.

The Supreme Court has stated that the American people have the freedom to choose European-style socialism if they desire. This ruling lights the same fire of civic engagement under the national Republican party that has been burning in Wisconsin for the last two years. America’s future will be chosen by the American people. We must elect Mitt Romney if free enterprise and a bright economic future are to be preserved.

Saturday night, February 18, the Stoney Creek Inn in Mosinee, WI was the site of a great gathering of Republican supporters. The sold out house of about 450 people listened to a keynote address by U.S. Senator Ron Johnson and enjoyed a festive prime rib meal together. Governor Scott Walker also addressed the gathering by video from Madison.

Counties represented included Lincoln, Langlade, Shawano, Waupaca, Portage, Wood, Clark, Taylor and Marathon. Other elected officials who spoke included:

The tone of the evening was very focused and energized. We were reminded over and over of the seriousness of our country’s economic situation, national debt, and unsure trajectory. We were also reminded of the tremendous opportunity for Americans to stand up to the bloated government bureaucracy and champion constitutionally limited government, fiscal conservatism, pro-growth policies, and reforms that have worked. Senator Johnson encouraged volunteers who have given sacrificially to press on and continue to stand with the cause of American freedom.

The significant funds raised through the event will be used by local county parties to support Republican candidates at the federal, state and local levels in this hyper-intense election year. The lengthy evening was also filled with networking and relationship building before and after the program. Press Release: Marathon Co. GOP: Response to Senate Passage of the Budget Repair Bill

The build-up to the big vote on the Budget Repair Bill is over. After weeks of discussion and 24-7 nationwide media attention, senate Republicans finally took the step that was first considered early in the debate. They removed the financial provisions of the bill in order to call the question without needing a three-fifths quorum of 20 senators.

After the senate action, Republican senators were directed to leave Madison for their personal safety. The Assembly will take up the revised bill tomorrow, clearly having the votes to send it on to Governor Walker to be signed into law.

Local Democrats are questioning the legality of the vote. We encourage them to investigate as thoroughly as necessary. Senator Fitzgerald stated that procedures were cleared with the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the Legislative Council and the Legislative Reference Bureau.

The irony of this evening’s events is that the Democrats are complaining about the Republicans moving too quickly while every Democrat senator has been voluntarily avoiding the senate floor for 20 days.

Wausau Democrat Rep. Donna Seidel states tonight that the Republican senators “obstructed our democracy.” All 14 Democrat senators remain in Illinois.

Stevens Point Democrat Senator Julie Lassa, from an undisclosed location, stated that the bill is opposed by “the overwhelming majority of Wisconsin citizens.” We question her math.

Lassa also stated, “Governor Walker and Republican legislators have demonstrated absolute contempt for the democratic process.” On the contrary, we who supported and elected our Republican governor and senators assert that the democratic process was honored by those Republicans who were elected on a platform of fiscal responsibility and who showed up day by day to honor the confidence placed in them by the voters.

Lassa and other Democrats are calling this an attack on middle class workers. This claim is deeply offensive to millions of middle class workers in Wisconsin who are picking up the tab.

Marathon County Democrats have criticized Senator Pam Galloway’s review of on-street medical excuses given at recent Madison protests, saying this review is unfounded and unnecessarily accusatory. We find that the photographic and video evidence online raises serious concerns.

The Atlantic reported Monday a conversation with the head of Wisconsin’s Center for Bioethics:

After viewing the videos at my request last night, Dr. Arthur Derse called me up exclaiming, “Holy mackerel! It’s much worse than it looked in the paper. I’m stunned, absolutely stunned.” Dr. Derse is the Director of Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities at the Medical College of Wisconsin. “When all’s said and done, it’s really the profession of medicine that has the black eye in this case,” he says.

There is no question these doctors are masking political opinion in the white coat of the medical profession, Dr. Derse believes. “The videos are pretty damning.”

It’s sad, but what puzzles me most is how in the world three of the four physicians I can identify from these videos and other media reports are faculty members of UW’s Family Medicine department, and one is a senior resident in that same department. It’s a good training program, committed to providing sorely-needed primary care doctors to the state of Wisconsin. It teaches professionalism, and its faculty are supposed to model integrity. What were they thinking?

They’ve managed to belittle a public trust between physicians, employers and patients. A doctor’s sick note is a serious document. It represents an employer’s desire to verify through a respected, independent, medically qualified third party the fact of an illness and the true need for convalescence. In the videos now circulating online, we witness multiple members of a noted family medicine department trash one of the well-recognized rights and privileges of their profession, with little forethought as to the consequences.

If Director Derse holds this incident worthy of review, we believe Senator Galloway’s simple request to have the situation looked at is the only responsible position.

Both supporters and opponents of Governor Walker’s budget repair bill clearly recognize the significance of the legislation. We are asking that its passage or failure to pass be guided by our constitutional and legal guidelines.
